"We love to play with colour..."

What makes your home so special for you?
We have just moved into our own home on the outskirts of Berlin. Sustainability and healthy living were particularly important to us when building. That's why we built a wooden house to KfW40+ standard - with a solar system, storage tank and lots of smart features. However, it was just as important to us that we could live out our very own colourful style. We are not Team Beige, but definitely Team Colourful. That started with the tiles and doesn't stop with the walls.

Which is your favourite room?
That's not so easy to answer. The guest toilet has a particularly colourful metro tile wall with matching wall paint. In the sewing room, four different coloured walls meet wild patterns. And the children's room has a few more colours - with rainbow dots on a light blue background and a purple circus blanket. The energy in this room is wonderful and surprisingly not cluttered at all - it's our favourite room. But when it comes to most of the colours, the hallway clearly has the edge: in the small chessboard pattern wall, we simply used all the leftover colours from the whole house. All the colours that you will encounter in the house greet you in the entrance area.

Which colours did you choose and why?
I love strong, rich tones - no beige and grey Instagram. We think colours give rooms character and mood. And because I want to express something different in every room, each room was given its own colour. We used different wall paints from MissPompadour - the colour shades simply go together wonderfully, are of great quality and are easy to work with. We used The Functional Wall Paint in the kitchen and bathroom because it can be wiped clean. The Valuable Wall Paint was used in all the other rooms.

How did you go about designing the colours for your home?
I took a close look at the colour cards from MissPompadour Paint and thought about which colours did what to me. We spread out our favourites, combined them, held them up to furniture, built mood boards, took lots of photos - and observed what colour moods we really liked. Once we had a basic selection, I simulated the rooms and colours in a graphics program. There was actually a small fail in the sewing room, where I wanted to combine two strong shades of red. As a result, the whole room took on a reddish aura - not ideal when you're photographing and filming in it. But I simply improvised and replaced the second colour with a beige tone without further ado - and everything was harmonious again.

What is your favourite painting project?
I love all walls with patterns - I can hardly decide between the outdoor pool stripes and the popcorn wall in the sewing room, the chessboard pattern in the hallway or the circus ceiling in the children's room. If I had to choose, it would probably be the circus blanket - simply because it took a lot of planning (and a bit of madness).

What is your most valuable tip for someone who wants to paint their home?
Just do it! Don't overthink it, just try it out. You can paint over colour - but white walls will always be boring. And: good brushes and good masking tape make 80% of the work easier. If it's not perfect? Then it's individual - or you can just repaint it at some point.

What is your favourite MissPompadour colour shade?
Hm, I think Green with Aqua. The colour shade has also made it onto several of our walls. But Purple with Provence is also very popular here, because my love of purple has been fully rekindled!
