Alongside tile paint, we also offer our hard-wearing and washable wall paint, which is ideal for walls with plaster or wallpaper finishes that see a lot of use. For example, you can paint not only the tiles in your bathroom but also the surrounding walls and ceiling in a complementary colour. The colour shades in the Just Paint collection come in 3 different finishes – there’s a perfect variant for every project! Tip: Are your tiles still looking good, but the grout is past its best? Then simply paint the grout! Find out how here.

What makes tile paint special?

Painting tiles is a breeze with our colours. Conventional tile paints often require a complicated two-component mixing process and need to be applied quickly. They can also be quite harsh on your nose and health, with unpleasant odours lingering for a long time. With MissPompadour tile paints, you can paint your tiles at your own pace and without any nasty smells.

Our MissPompadour tile paints are ready to use, virtually odourless, and can be applied without extensive prior experience. They glide onto tiles and grout with ease. Thanks to their slightly thicker consistency, you'll avoid most bubbles and achieve a beautifully even finish. You can even apply the second coat after just 4-6 hours.

The tile paints from our online shop also impress with their excellent opacity. Whether your substrate is light or dark, after 2-3 coats, nothing else will show through. Our soft, semi-matt Easy Eggshell! has an elegant finish, is robust, and simple to clean. You can carefully walk on the surface again after just a few hours of drying. CosyColours chalk varnishes and LittlePomp chalk varnishes are completely matt paints with a velvety surface that enhances colour depth.

Our tile paints adhere to almost all surfaces. However, there are a few exceptions: waxed or otherwise treated tiles, and those with a lotus effect, usually cannot be painted.

When should you use tile paint?

Whenever you fancy a change from your old tiles, our tile paint is the perfect solution! You won't need new tiles; a coat of paint is all it takes to completely transform your room. Whether you want to cover colourful, old tiles with a neutral shade or liven up plain tiles with bold colours like turquoise or orange tile paint – you'll find the perfect hue with us. For tile paint for floors, paint for kitchen tiles, wall tiles, or floor tiles – our paints can cover almost any surface.

Sanding your tiles isn't necessary with our paints; thorough cleaning is all you need to prepare the surface. We even have a solution for silicone joints: painting over them with MissPompadour To Seal Silicone makes silicone joints paintable! Prime your tiles with To Bond & Block after preparation. Once dry, apply one coat of paint – 2 coats are usually sufficient. Especially on floor tiles, high-traffic areas like kitchen backsplashes, and in damp zones, we recommend finishing with MissPompadour To Seal to create an extra protective layer for enhanced longevity. The curing time after sealing is approximately 14 days, but the paint can be carefully used before then.

Tile paint: colours for every taste

We know that choosing the right colour can be a challenge. That's why we make it simple! Special tile paints aren't necessary, and the opacity of our standard paints is excellent.

What colours are available as tile paint?

You can choose from a wide range of fantastic colours. Whether you're looking for grey or blue tile paint, pink or black tile paint – you're sure to find your favourite shade here! Tip: Colours always look slightly different on screen than they do on your wall, so order our colour charts in advance to help you find the perfect match.

Can I paint tiles with chalk paint?

Chalk paints are ideal for painting tiles that won't experience heavy wear. In MissPompadour's CosyColours collection, you'll find over 30 warm pastel shades, and the LittlePomp chalk varnishes are also suitable. These matt varnishes are robust and easy to clean, making them a great choice for wall tiles. However, for heavily used tiles on floors or in damp areas, we recommend our robust Easy Eggshell!

Painting tiles: a few application tips

How much tile paint per square metre?

As a rule, 1 litre of tile paint is sufficient for 8 to 10 m² with 2 coats, depending on the quality and substrate. We also recommend at least 2 coats so that your tile paint can develop its full robustness and colour brilliance. It's best to roughly calculate the area you want to paint. Then simply enter the number of square metres into the quantity calculator, which you'll find next to each colour in the shop. The calculated consumption always refers to 2 coats, which is sufficient for most colours. However, depending on the painting technique and the shade you choose, it can sometimes be more. Some colours, like red tile paints, often require a third coat, as red tones generally cover less well than other colours. You can find general tips on painting in this blog.

Is tile paint waterproof?

Of course, our tile varnishes cannot simply be wiped away with water, so nothing stands in the way of a new tile colour in the bathroom. However, if you paint tiles that come into contact with water very often - e.g. in the shower or on the backsplash in the kitchen - you should additionally protect the varnish from the increased moisture load with MissPompadour To Seal.

Please note that our varnishes do not tolerate standing water. We therefore advise against painting floor tiles inside a shower or uncovered tiles outdoors. Of course, you can also clean painted tiles with mild cleaning agents.

Which tiles should I prime?

We recommend that you always prime tiles with MissPompadour To Bond & Block. Silicone joints should be treated with To Seal Silicone before priming. This makes the silicone joints paintable. You can find detailed instructions on how to paint your floor tiles in our blog Painting floor tiles.

Which tiles should I seal after painting?

The durability of heavily used tiles is increased by the topcoat. We therefore recommend sealing floor tiles and wall tiles in the shower in particular.

How long does the tile paint last?

This depends to a large extent on how much the tiles are used on a daily basis, so it is difficult to give specific details here. Of course, floor tiles usually wear out faster than wall tiles. However, we always receive feedback from customers who painted two or more years ago and are still very satisfied. Tip: Small scratches can be easily corrected afterwards - so it's worth keeping the rest of the tile paint!
