What is paint?
When you hear the word “paint”, you probably first think of a glossy finish, an unpleasant smell, and vibrant colours. But there are other types of paints that you can use in various areas.
The difference between paint and wall paint
We refer to wall paints as 'colour'. These differ from paints because they have a different composition. On smooth surfaces, they are less impact-resistant than paint. Colour needs a rough surface to adhere well. Paints, on the other hand, bond better with the surface, are usually thinner, and can be easily applied to smooth surfaces. Whether you need a primer depends on the surface, not the paint.
Our paints are perfect for beautifying wooden surfaces, furniture, and even metal and plastic.
Areas of application: What you can paint with lacquer paint
Just as diverse as the surfaces in your home are, so too are the application areas for our paints.
Use our paints as furniture paint to customise your IKEA furniture, adapt heirlooms, or upgrade old furniture. With a coat of paint, you can change the look effortlessly. There are no limits to your creativity. For example, do you love the colour blue? Then paint an accent piece of furniture with blue paint!
If you want to spruce up your stairs, you can paint both wooden steps and metal railings. Our Easy Eggshell! is perfect for wood and metal.
Did you know that you can even paint your radiators yourself? Use our paint as radiator paint to make your heating blend into the wall, or stand out as a special accent, for example, with red paint.
If you're tired of the 80s tiles in your kitchen or bathroom, paint over them with our Easy Eggshell! The special thing is that you can use these tile paints in the bathroom because, once cured, they can withstand water splashes. You can even use them for floor tiles in the bathroom. There's only one limitation: water-based paints do not tolerate standing water. Therefore, they are not suitable for painting shower trays or other surfaces where standing water often collects. If you're painting wall tiles in the shower or expect heavy use, you should finish the paint job with the To Seal topcoat. Since tiles are very smooth, we also recommend priming them before painting.

Choose from a wide range of different shades. From subtle and modern to colourful and striking, you can buy paint for every surface from us. Why not try an exciting colour and explore our red tones? If you ever get tired of this powerful colour, you can simply paint over it without having to remove the previous coat. The selection is vast!
So, if you want to buy paint online but can't decide, our colour cards will help you.
No matter which shade you ultimately choose — all our paints have in common that they are low odour, have no harmful fumes, and are water-based. With these advantages, you can paint indoors with a clear conscience.
Painting made easy - even on difficult surfaces
It's important to check in the bathroom and kitchen whether the joints are sealed with silicone. In this case, To Seal Silicone from our shop is the right primer before you paint. You don't need a two-component paint for your tiles. This means you don't have to mix anything and can take breaks in between without the tile paint suffering. Since tiles are very smooth, we recommend priming them before painting with To Bond & Block. For heavily used tiles, such as on the floor, it can also be useful to reinforce the paint after painting with an additional coat of To Seal.
Even foiled kitchens and plastic doors are no problem for the right paint. Use plastic paints to refresh your doors or to make your kitchen more colourful. Here, as a first step, you should apply a primer like To Bond & Block so that the paint can adhere better to the smooth surface. Perhaps you'll paint your kitchen with a bright, turquoise paint and bring vibrancy into the room. Or let the sun in with yellow paint. Of course, you can also use plastic paints in other areas.
For already rusty metals, it's important to sand thoroughly before painting and apply effective rust protection.

What is the difference between coloured lacquer, wood lacquer and acrylic lacquer?
Coloured varnishes are all coloured varnishes. Wood varnish is a varnish that is suitable for varnishing wood. Acrylic varnish is a varnish whose binder consists of acrylic resins. The acrylic can either be dissolved in a solvent or dispersed in water.
What is the gloss level of varnish?
Varnishes are available in various degrees of gloss: Matt, silk matt, silk gloss, glossy, high gloss. High gloss is familiar from car paintwork, for example. The CosyColours chalk varnish and the LittlePomp chalk varnish are matt varnishes, i.e. they have the lowest possible gloss level. The Easy Eggshell! is silk matt, but also has a very low gloss level.
What is the difference between varnish and stain?
You paint varnish to obtain a covered surface. Varnishes contain more pigments than stains. The latter are not opaque, as you want the surface to show through. It is often the wood structure that should still be recognisable. However, the small amount of pigments also limits the variety of colours available; strong colours are not possible with stains.
Which Rollers are ideal for varnishing?
Many people like to paint with a foam roller. We used to use these too. However, we have now had better experiences with the short-pile varnish rollers, which you can find here under varnish roller. We therefore always recommend these rollers for painting and varnishing.
How robust are varnishes?
As with everything, it depends on how much the paint is subjected to. All our varnishes are so robust when used correctly that they also work wonderfully as a tile paint for wall tiles. For heavy-duty tiles, you'll find the right colour among our All Paints varnishes. On smooth tiles, we recommend priming with To Bond & Block, our primer that ensures particularly good adhesion.
In principle, the varnish can withstand normal everyday wear and tear after curing for 14 days. It continues to harden for several weeks. If you want to further increase the durability, we recommend sealing the varnish colour. MissPompadour To Seal is well suited for this.
Can you paint over varnishes?
Yes, you can simply paint over varnishes.
