Sustainable and individual upcycling with green furniture paint

Painting old or existing pieces of furniture has many advantages. We live in an age in which people are increasingly concerned about the sustainability of things. In addition, old handmade furniture is often of a much higher quality than modern, industrially manufactured furniture. We often take pieces to our hearts because we have many memories attached to them. Or we've strolled through a flea market and made a particularly interesting catch.

But even newer, off-the-peg pieces of furniture that are rather unattractive and do nothing but fulfil their purpose can be given an individual character with a new colour. With furniture paint, you can turn an otherwise boring piece of furniture into your very own, individual item of furniture. As you can see, upcycling is not only good for the environment and your budget, but also allows you to create unique pieces that are perfectly tailored to you!

Eggshell Varnish: Ideal varnish for heavily used surfaces

To paint the wooden surfaces of furniture that is subject to heavy wear, we recommend applying a coat of Eggshell Varnish. This highly durable varnish is available in many interesting shades of green. Your painted surfaces will have an elegant sheen and are extremely easy to clean. Eggshell Varnish is highly resistant to UV light, pressure and impact and can also be cleaned with cleaning agents. It is also suitable for outdoor use. Each shade of green in this varnish variant is also available in two wall paintn qualities, so that combinations of wall and varnish colours tone-on-tone are possible.

Matt varnish: matt varnish for elegant surfaces

If you want to achieve a velvety matt surface that impresses with its elegant appearance, use the Matt Varnish lacquer variant. Every piece of furniture that is painted with this varnish is given a powdery, valuable-looking surface. The Matt Varnish quality is also available in over 90 different colour shades in the MissPompadour Just paint collection, including many interesting shades of green with matching green wall paints.

Paint furniture dark green to light green with chalk paint

MissPompadour is also well equipped in the chalk paint range. You can paint furniture green with the chalk paints from the CosyColours collection. You can also find beautiful chalk-based green colours at LittlePomp. The chalk pigments lie gently on the surfaces and create a matt and slightly rustic effect.

CosyCoulours has a beautiful palette of soft green tones that conjure up a very warm, cosy atmosphere. The green tones of the LittlePomp chalk paints have been specially developed for children, but are also appealing to adults. They are also characterised by their high compatibility for mother and child and are even saliva-resistant, so you can even paint children's toys with them.

The correct application of green furniture paint

Regardless of which paint quality and shade of green you ultimately decide on: Before painting, every piece of furniture, whether old or new, must be thoroughly cleaned. All dust, dirt and old furniture wax must be removed from the wood. The best way to do this is to use the mild but highly efficient MissPompadour Cleaner.

You can paint over intact old varnish. If the varnish flakes off in some places, you will need to sand it down evenly as it will not be able to support the new colour. If you have a piece of furniture with a plastic veneer, you should use a primer to ensure that your varnish adheres to the smooth surface. Use MissPompadour To Bond & Block for this. You should also use this primer if your wood has noticeable stains or knotholes. The primer can also be used on a smooth surface such as glass, for example if you want to paint over a window in a display cabinet.

Then paint with your furniture varnish green. Always paint twice, even if the colour already covers with the first coat thanks to its good opacity. And make sure that each coat dries properly before you continue painting. The colours will then simply look brighter and you will be delighted with the result.

Incidentally, you can apply the green furniture paint and of course the primer well with our paint roller, especially on larger surfaces. If you assume that your surface painted with green furniture paint will be heavily stressed later, you should finish your coat with a layer of MissPompadour To Seal. On surfaces painted with matt furniture paint, MissPompadour To Wax-Polish in the colourless version is also suitable for additionally stabilising coats of green chalk paint. The result then remains matt and the chalk paint retains its special character.

We have also put together detailed step-by-step instructions for you here. If you would like to know which products and painting tools you need for your project, you will find everything you need in our customisable project set.
