Application instructions

MissPompadour Chalkboard Paint is a universally applicable water-based transparent chalkboard paint for many surfaces. For individual and writable boards in your favourite colour.

Application recommendations

Stir well before use and apply a test coat. Applying MissPompadour Chalkboard Paint once or twice creates a surface that can be written on with chalk. However, the surface hardness is not comparable to that of a blackboard. As a result, a slight haze may remain after cleaning. Some very colourful chalks cannot be completely removed (ghost writing). Please test before use.

Can be written on with:

  • All commercially available wall and colour chalks, white or coloured
  • Schmincke artists' chalk
  • Pastel Edding chalk marker 4095 in colour shade white

What would you like to use the blackboard paint for?

Blackboard paint on absorbent substrates

  • On wall paint for a writable wall
  • On wood
  • On absorbent, stone-like materials
  • Blackboard in desired colour

Preparation: Paint the surface with wall paint and allow to dry.

blackboard paint: For highly absorbent surfaces, apply a first coat of diluted blackboard paint (10% with water). Apply a second coat of undiluted blackboard paint. 48 hours after application.

Drying time

Dust-dry after approx. 1 hour, can be painted over after approx. 6 hours, completely dry after approx. 16 hours, can be written on with chalk after 48 hours. The drying times given are average values and depend on the layer thickness, the substrate, the temperature and the relative humidity.

ProTip

Determine absorbency

Test the absorbency of the substrate with a few splashes of water. If these are absorbed very quickly or dry immediately, the wall is highly absorbent and To Prime Walls should be applied first.

Blackboard paint on smooth surfaces

  • On painted surfaces
  • On metal
  • On plastic

Preparation: The substrate must be free of grease and sound. Peeling and cracked old paint must be removed. For very smooth surfaces, lightly matt with sandpaper.
blackboard paint: 1-2 coats with undiluted blackboard paint. Can be written on after 48 hours.

Instructions

  1. Masking (optional) & cleaning: General sequence for preparing a wall. Remove dust, dirt & loose layers of paint from the surface. Mask off everything that is not to be painted. Please note that the preparation always differs depending on the project.
  2. Open the can carefully:Carefully remove the clips on the lid with our paint can opener or use a spatula or screwdriver. Bend the clips away from the bottom upwards. If you bend the clips away from the top of the can, they will pop less. Please note that the clips are under tension and hold your hand over them when removing them. To Open the can, it is best to use a paint can opener.
  3. Stir: (Preferably at an angle from the front and not from above, then you don't have to show the product again) Stir the blackboard paint carefully.
  4. Pour the paint into the paint tray: Pour a little into the paint tray. Do not work directly from the can to keep the contents of the can clean. For dark colour shades, add up to 10% paint to the blackboard paint to avoid streaks.
  5. Wet the roller: Then wet the roller all around and lightly roll it out in the tub. Make sure that the roller is completely and sufficiently wetted with the paint. It should no longer have any dry patches.
  6. Apply the blackboard paint & allow to dry well: (On the wall) Apply the paint in 1 to 2 coats. Allow each coat to dry well. Observe the recommended drying time until you can write on the blackboard surface with chalk.

FAQ

What is so special about MissPompadour Chalkboard Paint?

MissPompadour Chalkboard Paint is colourless and allows you to write or paint directly on your existing wall paint - without any black or green board surface. You can apply it to walls, doors or furniture and then write on it with chalk to your heart's content. Everything can be removed again with a damp cloth.

On which surfaces can blackboard paint be used?

The paint adheres to smooth, coated and uncoated surfaces such as wood, metal, plastic or painted walls. It is important that the surface is stable, smooth and free of grease. For very smooth surfaces, we recommend lightly roughening with sandpaper.

How is blackboard paint used?

Apply the colourless blackboard paint with a brush, short pile varnish roller or sprayer. One to two coats are necessary depending on the substrate. A first, slightly diluted coat is recommended for highly absorbent surfaces. The surface can be written on after 48 hours.

Which chalks and markers are suitable?

Commercially available wall and coloured chalks (white or coloured), Schmincke artists' chalks (pastel) and the white Edding chalk marker 4095 are suitable. Oil pastels and coloured chalk markers are not suitable as they are difficult to remove.

How do I clean the described surface?

Simply wipe off with a damp cloth and then allow the surface to dry thoroughly before writing on it again. With very intensive chalks, a slight "haze" may remain, but this does not affect the function.

Is blackboard paint suitable for children?

Yes, the MissPompadour Chalkboard Paint complies with EN 71, Part 3 - Safety of Toys and is therefore safe for use in children's rooms. Children can paint and write on it safely

Can blackboard paint be used outdoors?

Yes, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use - but not for horizontal surfaces outdoors, as water could collect there. It can be used for vertical outdoor surfaces without any problems.

What is the range of the colour?

With 1 litre of blackboard paint, you can paint around 16 to 20 m² per coat, depending on the absorbency of the substrate. The container contains 0.75 litres, which is sufficient for approx. 12-15 m².
