Determine absorbency
Test the absorbency of the substrate with a few splashes of water. If these are absorbed very quickly or dry immediately, the wall is highly absorbent and To Prime Walls should be applied first.
Instructions for use
MissPompadour Magnet Paint is used as a primer under wall or varnish paint. You can attach magnets of all kinds to surfaces painted with MissPompadour Magnet Paint. We recommend neodymium magnets for the best effect. To ensure an even magnetic effect, the surface should be as smooth as possible.
What do you want to use the magnet paint for?
Your area of application
- Walls (smooth plaster, plasterboard, concrete)
- Wood
Temperature:
Object and ambient air above +15 to 25°C. Application at extreme temperatures (air and substrate) can strongly influence the product properties.
Preparation:
We recommend smoothing the substrate with a suitable filler if necessary and priming it with a deep penetrating primer if it is highly absorbent. Your substrate must be clean, grease-free and stable.
Magnet paint:
The coverage is approx. 10 m²/l per coat. To achieve a sufficiently magnetic layer, 3 coats of at least 100 ml/m² each should be applied. Allow the paint to dry for at least 4-6 hours between coats. Test the tensile strength after each dried coat.
Top coat:
4-6h after the last coat of magnetic paint, the magnetic surface can be painted over with your desired colour. Thin wallpaper can also be applied on top. Repeated coats of magnet paint slightly reduce the magnetic effect.
- varnished and coated surfaces
- Metal
- Plastic
Temperature:
Object and ambient air above +15 to 25°C. Application at extreme temperatures (air and substrate) can strongly influence the product properties.
Preparation:
The substrate must be free of grease and sound. Peeling and cracked old coats must be removed. For very smooth substrates, we recommend lightly matting with sandpaper. Adhesion can be improved if a layer of primer is applied. To Bond & Block is suitable here.

Instructions
- Check the absorbency and condition of the substrate: Check the absorbency of the substrate with a few splashes of water. Depending on the absorbency or smoothness of your substrate, a primer may be necessary.
- Masking (optional) & cleaning: Remove dust, dirt and grease from the substrate. Carefully mask off everything that is not to be painted. Please note that the preparation may vary depending on the project.
- Carefully open the tin: Carefully remove the clips on the lid with our paint can opener or use a spatula or screwdriver. Bend the clips away from the bottom upwards. If you bend the clips away from the top of the can, they will pop less. Please note that the clips are under tension and hold your hand over them when removing them. To open the can, it is best to use a paint can opener.
- Stir: Stir the magnet paint particularly carefully so that all the ingredients mix evenly.
- Pour into the paint tray: Pour a little magnet paint into the paint tray. Do not work directly from the can to keep the contents clean.
- Wet the roller: Wet the roller all around and lightly Rollers it out in the tray. Make sure that it is completely and sufficiently soaked with paint and that no dry spots are visible. Immerse the brush up to about half of the bristles.
- apply magnet paint & allow to dry well: Paint the magnet paint in at least 3 coats. Allow the paint to dry for 4-6 hours between coats and check the tensile strength of the magnets after each coat. Then choose your desired colour if required, as our magnet paint can be painted over with all colour shades from the range and combined with blackboard paint. Observe the specified drying time before painting over the magnet paint.

FAQ
How does magnet paint work?
Magnet paint is a wall paint to which metal pigments have been added. This causes magnets to adhere to the painted surface. The iron particles contained in the paint give it its dark grey colour. Magnet paint is not available colourless or transparent, but can be painted over with any MissPompadour ChalkboardPaint or blackboard paint once it has dried.
Where should I use magnet paint?
Magnet paint is suitable wherever you want to attach paper or notes with magnets without drilling holes. Whether in the children's room for drawings, in the kitchen for shopping lists, in the office for notes or on doors and furniture - magnet paint creates a practical, invisible pinboard.
How do I use magnet paint correctly?
Stir the magnet paint thoroughly before painting and apply 2-3 thick coats with a brush or roller. Wait 4-6 hours between coats. After 24 hours, you can paint over the surface in the colour of your choice or combine it with blackboard paint.
Which magnets can I use on magnet paint?
You can use any magnets for decoration. To securely attach papers, we recommend neodymium magnets as they are particularly strong. Depending on the size of the magnet and the painted surface, several sheets of paper will easily stick to the wall.
Can I paint over magnet paint with wall paint or blackboard paint?
Yes, magnet paint is designed to be painted over. Once dry, you can use any MissPompadour Chalkboard Paint or apply additional blackboard paint to create a writable magnetic board. You can find helpful instructions here.
On which surfaces can I use magnet paint?
Magnet paint can be used on all stable, solid surfaces, e.g. plastered walls, wood, veneer, plastic and even tiles. For highly absorbent surfaces, a suitable primer such as To Prime Walls or To Bond & Block is recommended in advance for smooth surfaces.
How many layers of magnetic paint do I need for good adhesion?
For a strong magnetic effect, 3 thick coats of approx. 100 ml magnet paint per m² are required. Test the adhesive force of your magnets after each dried coat to adjust the result.
Can I customise a magnetic board?
Yes, you can apply magnet paint as a primer and then paint over it in any MissPompadour colour shade. In combination with blackboard paint, you can create a writable magnetic board that perfectly matches your interior. You can find helpful instructions here.
