Instructions
- Masking (optional) & cleaning: Carefully remove dust, grease and release agents from the silicone joint. Please do not use soap or washing-up liquid to clean - just wipe clean and allow to dry thoroughly. Fresh silicone joints must dry out thoroughly for several days, depending on the thickness of the layer.
- Open the tin carefully: Carefully remove the clips on the lid using our paint can opener or a spatula/screwdriver. Bend the clips away from the bottom upwards to make them less likely to pop open. Caution: The clips are under tension - hold your hand over them when removing.
- Stir: Stir the topcoat carefully. It is best to do this at an angle from the front - this way you have a good view of the contents and distribute everything evenly.
- Pouring: Pour a small amount of topcoat into the paint tray. Please do not work directly from the can so that the remaining contents remain clean.
- Wet the brush: Wet the soft, dense brush all over with topcoat. This will ensure an even coating result.
- apply topcoat & allow to dry well: Paint the topcoat in a very thin layer (30-50 μ) onto the silicone joint. If not everything is evenly covered, repeat the coating after drying. Paint To Seal Silicone slightly wider than the actual silicone joint, as invisible silicone stains often occur on the surface here. Always observe the recommended drying time.
FAQ
What is To Seal Silicone intended for?
To Seal Silicone creates a bridge between silicone joints and varnish. This allows your colour to adhere perfectly - and saves you having to remove or seal with new silicone later on. Ideal for a smooth, harmonious look and long-lasting results.
Can I paint over silicone?
Without a special primer, paint on silicone unfortunately does not stick. With To Seal Silicone from MissPompadour, you can create an adhesion-promoting layer that you can paint over after approx. 5-6 hours - without having to remove the silicone first. Make sure you only apply the topcoat very thinly.
On which surfaces can I use it?
You can use To Seal Silicone on all silicone joints - for example on doors, windows or in sanitary areas. You can also use it on glass seals, although adhesion may be impaired by certain window cleaners.
Can I also use the topcoat in the bathroom?
Yes! to Seal Silicone is suitable for indoor and outdoor areas as well as wet rooms. You can paint wall tiles in the shower area without any problems. You should only avoid applying paint to areas with standing water, such as level-access shower areas.
Do I have to mix the product?
No, To Seal Silicone is ready to use. Simply stir up, apply a thin layer - and you're done!
What is the best way to apply it?
It is best to use a fine, bevelled brush such as our To Paint 25mm. This allows you to reach narrow joints and corners easily and cleanly.
What happens if paint drips off somewhere?
If paint drips off in certain areas, this is often due to invisible silicone residue. A thin layer of To Seal Silicone provides a remedy - it creates a paintable bonding bridge.
Is there a MissPompadour Pro tip?
- Prime silicone joints with To Seal Silicone before painting over them.
- Remove the adhesive tape immediately after painting - while the paint is still wet. This keeps the edge clean.
- If you want to mask again later, wait at least 14 days until the varnish has fully cured. As a precaution, test on an inconspicuous area.
