Chalk paint is known for its incomparably warm, velvety surface. The CosyColours chalk varnish collection consists of pastel colours and a few matching darker accent colours. These premium varnishes are washable and impact-resistant. They can be used on a wide variety of interior surfaces: From wood to plastic to metal. They are also suitable for painting over high-gloss surfaces and tiles that are subject to moderate wear. Please note that smooth surfaces must always be primed with CosyColours Primer so that the paint can adhere well.

This pastel colour is ideal for breathing new life into old furniture. The matt, chalky finish of the CosyColours chalk varnish is wonderfully suited to the vintage style. If you like shabby chic, you can also sand the furniture colour with Sanding Pad on edges and decorations after drying to create an elegant used look.

Frequently asked questions & answers

What is the difference between chalk paint lacquer and other lacquers?

Chalk paint lacquer is an environmentally friendly organic-based paint. It also contains water and pigments. In contrast to many conventional paints, CosyColours chalk paints for furniture contain the lowest possible solvent content and are VOC-free certified. CosyColours chalk paint lacquer creates an elegant, matt finish that brings out the best in pastel colours.

How do I use chalk paint for furniture?

Once opened, stir the chalk paint carefully so that the pigments are evenly dispersed, and pour into a paint tray. We recommend applying 2 coats, even if the first coat covers. This will give a thicker paint coat and make the surface more durable. Allow the paint to dry for approx. 4 hours between each coat.

If you want to finish a furniture piece in the shabby chic style, wait at least 4 hours after applying the last paint coat, and then you can sand the corners and edges to your liking to achieve an authentic vintage look.

When do I need to prime or seal chalk paint lacquer?

In most cases, you can achieve a perfect result with CosyColours CosyColours Autumn Red chalk paint chalk varnish alone - without priming or sealing. As a rule, you can simply paint over old paintwork without sanding if the old layers of paint are still sufficiently stable.

Sometimes, however, priming is advisable. CosyColours Primer is perfect for many substrates. Use it to prime stained, discoloured or bleeding wood or wood with lots of knotholes to create an even base for the CosyColours chalk varnish. Even if you want to work on very smooth surfaces made of glass, tiles or plastic, we recommend a primer coat so that your colour can adhere better. You should also prime metal paintwork if the metal is unpainted or the varnish has flaked off. If it is raw iron or rusty metal, remove the rust and use a rust protection primer before priming.

You can additionally protect the painted surfaces after painting with CosyColours Topcoat or use the CosyColours Furniture Wax wood and furniture wax line as a finish.

What tools do I need to apply the paint?

Of course, you need the right tools to achieve a good result. We have therefore put together a selection of high-quality tools for you. From masking tape with natural rubber to our environmentally friendly, plastic-free paint tray, to a varnish roller and our pink brushes - you'll find everything you need to make your painting projects easy. :)
