2 Paint walls around corners

5 min reading time

Would you like to set off an area of a room by painting two walls in colour around the corner? This is a good way to visually emphasise a part of the room. Perhaps you want to create a corner of the room as a reading nook or separate your workspace from the rest of the room. Or simply paint an accent wall a different colour! Painting two walls around a corner in a different colour opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

Painting two walls in colour around a corner: this is how it works

An accent wall doesn't always have to be a single wall in the room. Perhaps you could paint half of two neighbouring walls instead, or even a whole wall and half a wall? A third of one and two thirds of the other? Whatever ratio you choose, one thing is certain: you can achieve a great effect by painting an accent wall around a corner

Painting two walls in colour around a corner is particularly suitable for rooms that serve multiple purposes. For example, if you have a work area in the bedroom, you can emphasise it with its own wall paint and at the same time separate it from the sleeping area. You can also emphasise a dressing area in the bedroom in this way

If you want to visually separate the dining area in the kitchen from the work area, use wall paint to create a cosy, spacious corner where your dining table and chairs can be placed

You can also give your home office its own space in this way, no matter where you want to place it in your home. Use wall paints to create a corner in the bedroom, living room or hallway that is immediately recognisable as a workspace thanks to its own colour

A small child will also feel very safe if the sleeping area in the children's room is set off from the rest of the walls with a soft colour. There are also ideas for older children on how you can use colour to divide the children's room into individual areas. How about a special play corner or a nice workstation that stands out from the rest of the children's room in colour?

Colour selection and combination for corner-painted accent walls

It is important that the two colours you want to use in a room are perfectly coordinated.

One option is to choose a single colour for the wall paints, but use them in two degrees of brightness. Perhaps you combine a light blue wall paint such as Blue with Cloud with the dark Blue with Night in the bedroom? Normally, the darker accent colour is used in the corner of the room, while the larger wall areas are reserved for the lighter colour

However, you can also combine two different colours. However, make sure that these different wall paints also differ in brightness

You can also achieve a great effect by accentuating your over-corner solution with an attractive wallpaper. Here too, the colour shade of the remaining walls must match the wallpaper perfectly

It's best to order the MissPompadour colour cards from the Just paint Collection and the matching single colour cards from LittlePomp and put together your own favourite combination

Simple instructions: Painting two walls in colour around a corner

Step 1: Preparation

Firstly, order everything you need to paint: Hand-held Paint Bucket, paint roller, brushes, tape and, of course, the paints. Then prepare yourself with a spirit level and a soft pencil

Step 2: Measure out

Use the spirit level and pencil to mark the vertical edge of the paint on both walls. If you only want to paint a corner half the height of the room in a different colour shade, perhaps to create a home office with shelves above the desk, you also need to determine the horizontal line where your colour should end. You can find out exactly how to do this in our blog, Correct masking.

Step 3: 1. paint the colour

First, paint the lighter colour shade twice on the wall surfaces that you want to keep lighter

Step 4: Masking off

Once dry, re-mark the edge of the colour if necessary. Then stick the masking tape to the lighter colour along the line marked with a spirit level and pencil

Step 5: Paint the 2nd colour

Then paint the corresponding areas with the darker colour shade

Step 6: Finishing

Finally, the adhesive tape should be removed while the paint is still wet

Here are a few more useful tips:

  • You can achieve exact colour edges if you pre-paint the tape and the edge with the lighter colour shade. The darker colour can then no longer run under the tape.
  • Use a paint roller to paint. You can also use a brush to paint the edges.

Ideas for patterns on walls painted around corners

You can also emphasise walls painted around corners with a pattern. Use one of the great MissPompadour Paints stencils to highlight the edges of the areas that are painted with a different colour. You can also find more information on this topic in our blog: Painting walls with patterns.

A particularly great result can be achieved with attractive wallpaper. Apply the wallpaper around the corner of the wall and perfectly match the wall paints on the other walls to the wallpaper
