Can you paint tiles with beige paint?
Anyone wanting to paint over tiles wonders how it actually works. Will the paint even stick to such a smooth surface? The answer is yes! With the right preparation and the matching beige paint, nothing stands in the way of transforming your bathroom.
First and foremost, preparation is key. If you want to use tile paint, thoroughly cleaning your tiles is essential. Be sure to use a mild cleaner like MissPompadour To Clean – harsh, chlorine-based, or strongly alkaline cleaning products can ruin subsequent coats of paint.
Before applying the first coat, you should apply a primer so that the paint adheres well to the smooth surface. To Bond & Block also creates an even base.
And what about silicone joints? Do they need to be removed? Silicone joints are no problem at all: simply coat them with MissPompadour To Seal Silicone. Then you can easily paint them with beige paint.
The right paint for painting tiles
At MissPompadour, you will find a paint quality that is not only suitable for wood, metal, plastic, and stone, but is also perfect for painting tiles. It is Easy Eggshell!, available in every shade from the Just Paint collection, including many beautiful beige shades. What's more, this paint is low-emission (according to VdL-RL 01). This tile paint is durable and washable, making it suitable for a wide variety of surfaces.
Does this paint offer enough coverage to reliably conceal patterns or dark colours? Yes, absolutely! Usually, 2 coats are enough to cover the old colour completely.
Easy Eggshell! adheres to almost all tiles, with just a few exceptions: waxed or otherwise impregnated tiles generally cannot be painted, nor can tiles with a lotus effect. As you can see, painting tiles isn't complicated at all. As always with MissPompadour, the motto is: Just Paint!
Beige tiles: Warm and versatile
Beige is a light shade straight from nature, created by combining white and brown. Beige tones can vary greatly depending on the extra pigments added to the paint. But beige always feels warm, welcoming, and cosy. Beige shades like Beige with Sand remind us of walks along the beach, while others, like Beige with Cashmere, are light and neutral.
That's why painting over bathroom tiles you no longer like with this soft colour is a fantastic idea. A tiled splashback in the kitchen or a tiled hallway floor can also be completely transformed with a coat of beige. Beige combines beautifully with other colours.
The only thing to keep in mind when choosing your shade is whether your beige tile paint has yellow undertones or pink pigments. These pigments affect which accent shades will complement it best. Rich brown tones like MissPompadour Brown with Dark Chocolate pair wonderfully with beige shades, as do deep charcoal greys such as Black with Slate or the even darker Black with Velvet. A dark green like Green with Forest also harmonises beautifully with beige tile paint. In any combination, beige creates a cosy, warm atmosphere.
Painting bathroom tiles with beige tile paint
A dull, grey-tiled bathroom can get a completely fresh look with a new beige design. Even old 1970s bathrooms with loud colours and wild patterns can be given a modern, contemporary makeover with beige wall tiles. Best of all, there's no need to hack off old tiles or hire tradespeople. You save yourself all the mess and achieve a fantastic result at a fraction of the cost.
Before painting, it's essential to thoroughly clean the tiles to remove dirt, dust, grease, and especially limescale. The mild cleaner MissPompadour To Clean is ideal for this. Never use aggressive, chlorine-based, or strongly alkaline cleaners, as residues can get trapped in the porous grout and ruin your paint job.
Is there silicone in your bathroom? As you probably know, paint won't stick directly to silicone. But with To Seal Silicone, it works like a charm. Simply apply a thin coat of this primer over the silicone with a brush and allow it to dry. Next, treat the entire surface with To Bond & Block. Applying this primer creates an even surface that allows the tile paint to adhere perfectly. Now nothing stands between you and your fresh coat of tile paint!
Floor tiles can also be painted with beige tile paint. Plain beige on the floor might show dirt a bit too easily for your liking, but you can always enhance the painted surface with an eye-catching design. At MissPompadour, you'll find fantastic stencils to create stunning patterns on your floor in whatever style you love.
For floor tiles, we recommend sealing the finish with MissPompadour To Seal. Sealing gives the floor a matt finish while making your paint coat significantly tougher. After all, floor tiles undergo far more wear and tear than wall tiles and need to withstand regular cleaning. Wall tiles in the shower should also be sealed, as they are exposed to extra water. Because our Easy Eggshell! paint cannot tolerate standing water, we advise against painting floor tiles inside the shower itself.
Beige paint on kitchen tiles
Kitchens often have tiled splashbacks around the sink or cooker area. If your tiles feature outdated patterns that no longer match your kitchen units, why not simply paint them over?
In the kitchen, pay extra attention to cleaning the tiles thoroughly before applying tile paint. Cooking creates a thin film of grease, which prevents paint from bonding properly. Your best choice is the mild MissPompadour To Clean. Avoid harsh chlorine cleaners or strongly alkaline degreasers at all costs, as they can settle in the porous grout lines and ruin your paint finish later on.
After cleaning, apply a coat of To Bond & Block primer. This primer ensures that the tile paint adheres perfectly, even to smooth ceramic surfaces. Next, apply two coats of tile paint. If you want an even tougher finish, seal the surface with To Seal.
Painting tiles: Beige brightens up dark hallways
Hallways often lack windows, making a light coat of floor paint a great way to brighten them up. However, plain beige floor paint can show marks easily. Combining different shades is a clever solution here! Apply your beige paint base first, then stencil 1 or 2 other shades using a MissPompadour stencil. How about using Beige mit homeheartmade as your base coat, Grey with Peat for your pattern, and Grey with Brown for subtle accents?
To make your finish even tougher, finish with To Seal on your floor tiles. This creates a matt surface with added protection. If you'd like to paint your walls too, you'll find matching beige wall paints at MissPompadour.
Order beige tile paint from MissPompadour
MissPompadour offers an exciting range of beige shades: Beige with Cashmere is one of them. This very light, soft shade is beautifully balanced with subtle grey and yellow pigments. Beige with Sand is a soft shade reminiscent of wet sea sand. It pairs wonderfully with blue shades like Blue with Cloud to create a coastal vibe, though it looks just as stunning alongside dark charcoal. Fresh Beige with Peach features subtle reddish undertones, making it a great match for reddish browns, as well as red and orange shades.
We recommend ordering a set of colour cards to compare the different beige shades. The colour cards can be taken out individually, so you can tape them directly to your tiles and view them in different lighting conditions.
Once you've made your decision, you can order paintbrushes and rollers at the same time, saving on delivery costs. Our customizable project sets help you order everything you need so you don't forget a thing!
Is beige tile paint a good choice?
Yes, with beige tile paint, tired-looking bathrooms, hallways or kitchens can get a fresh new look. Beige is a neutral, timeless shade that's especially well suited to high-traffic rooms. Thanks to its subtle tint, marks show up less than they do on white.
How long does beige paint last on tiles?
That depends on how much wear and tear the paint gets and how often the tiles are cleaned. Floor tiles wear down faster than wall tiles. Either way, a topcoat will make the paint even harder and longer-lasting.
Can you paint beige tiles with a matt finish?
Wall tiles can also be painted with our chalk varnishes from the CosyColours and LittlePomp collections. These paints are currently only available in Germany. For floor tiles, the kitchen splashback and tiles on the shower's back wall, you should definitely use the satin-finish paint Easy Eggshell! and seal it as well. Satin-finish paints are particularly sturdy, which makes them the best choice for painting heavily used tiles. With its satin finish, Easy Eggshell! is also a great alternative if you want an almost matt look.
What are the benefits of beige tile paint in the bathroom?
Beige tile paint gives your bathroom a bright, welcoming feel-good atmosphere. Beige also pairs beautifully with lots of other colours.
Is tile paint waterproof?
Easy Eggshell! is highly water-resistant, so it works well as a tile lacquer in the bathroom and kitchen. The one thing it can't handle is standing water. That's why you shouldn't use it to paint the floor tiles in your shower.
Which colours work well in the bathroom?
Generally speaking, every shade works in a bathroom. We especially recommend soft, relaxing colours like beige, which can turn your bathroom into a spa-style sanctuary.
Is tile lacquer easy to apply?
Once you've cleaned the wall thoroughly and removed any old soap and limescale residue, start by applying a primer so the paint can adhere well. MissPompadour To Bond & Block is perfect for this. To make silicone joints paintable, simply cover them with To Seal Silicone. Then it's time to paint. On the floor, you should finish the tile surfaces with a topcoat. That way, you'll get a perfect result.
