Orange tile paint: Bold & eye-catching

Orange shades have a reputation for being bold and eye-catching, and it's well earned. But it really doesn't apply to every shade of orange. There are wonderfully soft, muted hues that make a bathroom feel warm and cosy. Paint your wall and floor tiles in one or two of these shades, and you can turn your bathroom into a true feel-good haven. You can also give the tiled splashback in your kitchen or the tiled floor in your hallway a beautiful orange makeover.

Can you really paint tiles with orange tile paint?

Before you take on a project like this, you probably have a few questions. Does tile paint actually stick to smooth surfaces? How does the paint react when it's constantly in contact with water? Perhaps your tiles have a textured pattern, and you're wondering how they'll look once painted. The answer is: Yes, tile paint sticks brilliantly to most types of tiles. The exceptions are waxed or otherwise impregnated tiles, as well as tiles with a lotus effect. So make sure your tiles aren't one of the exceptions before you order paints. You'll see that if you keep a few things in mind, painting wall tiles or floor tiles isn't complicated at all.

The paint to use for painting tiles orange

MissPompadour offers a paint that works as a true tile paint. You can use our Easy Eggshell! as a tile paint on floors as well as on walls. The product creates an elegant, satin-matt finish that shows off your chosen orange shade beautifully. This paint withstands water, but not standing water. That's why this orange paint can be used on the inside walls of the shower without any problem, but not on the shower floor tiles.

Orange tile paint for eye-catching accents in lots of rooms

Orange tile paint can look fantastic in more than just the bathroom and kitchen. Perhaps you'll paint a small guest toilet in a warm, friendly orange such as MissPompadour Orange with Chestnut. Or you could go for a bolder colour like Orange with Goldfish. After all, you don't spend long in a toilet, so a strong shade makes a real eye-catcher here. Complete the look by painting not just the tiles but also the rest of the walls and the ceiling. You'll also find Easy Eggshell! in matching orange wall paints at MissPompadour.

Orange tiled splashback in the kitchen

Highlight your home style with an orange tile paint, because orange is always an appetite-stirring, conversation-starting shade. In rooms where you cook, make sure every tile is thoroughly degreased. Otherwise, the paint won't be able to adhere. Perhaps you'll paint your tiled splashback in a warm shade like Orange with Rust and bring a Mediterranean feel to your kitchen. Before painting, use MissPompadour To Bond & Block. Since you often work with water and wipe a lot in the kitchen, finish by protecting the paintwork on your splashback with To Seal.

Orange tile designs on floor tiles

For flooring in kitchens, hallways or bathrooms, it's a great idea to decorate tiles with a pattern. Use one of the lovely MissPompadour stencils for this. You can easily stencil the tiles in 2 or 3 different shades of orange or brown, too. Perhaps you'll use Brown with Terracotta as the base colour and paint your pattern in vibrant Orange with Tangerine? As an extra layer of protection, seal the paintwork on your floor tiles with To Seal, so they stand up to heavy wear and frequent cleaning for a long time.

What preparatory work is required to paint orange tile paint?

It is very important to clean the tiles first. This is because there must be no dirt or dust residue on the surface. In rooms where cooking takes place and where there is therefore always a slight greasy odour, you must ensure that the surface of the tiles is completely free of grease. In the bathroom, there must be no limescale residue on the wall tiles. It is best to use the mild but effective MissPompadour To Clean Cleaner. Avoid aggressive, chlorinated cleaning agents or strongly alkaline cleaning agents at all costs. Residues from these can get stuck in the rough joints and destroy your tile coating.

Are there silicone joints in your bathroom? It is well known that paint does not adhere to silicone. So cover them with a thin brush and MissPompadour To Seal Silicone. The primer and tile colour will then adhere later.

The To Bond & Blockprimer is then applied to the entire surface. It ensures that your tile colour adheres perfectly to the smooth surface of the wall or floor. It also creates an even surface appearance so that you can simply paint away coloured patterns on old tiles.

How is the orange tile paint applied?

Once the primer is dry, it's time for the actual coat of tile paint. Apply two coats of Easy Eggshell! for good coverage. You can simply paint over the grout lines too, which gives a lovely, calm look. Use a brush for the grout lines, and a roller for the wall areas.

On floors, finish by protecting your paintwork with MissPompadour To Seal. If you're painting wall tiles in the shower, you should seal them as a final step too. The paint isn't suitable for shower floor tiles, as it can't withstand standing water.

How do I combine orange varnish for the industrial style?

The industrial style is not normally characterised by a blaze of colour. Grey, black, white and all shades in between are the predominant colours. You can set wonderfully lively accents with varnish in orange colours. If you prefer a calmer colour, choose Orange with Rust. The more daring can go for Orange with Goldfish.

What should I look out for when using orange tile paint?

It is important to clean thoroughly first and then prime with primer. The orange tile varnish can then follow. One product that should not be missing on the floor is MissPompadour To Seal. It is applied at the end to further stabilise the surface.

What effect does orange have in the bathroom?

Orange has an invigorating and vitalising effect, especially in the bathroom. This colour puts you in a good mood in the morning and gives you an upbeat start to the day. Choose a subtle, soft shade of orange for your bathroom and complement it with a friendly beige colour. Combine light-coloured wood and green leafy plants for a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere.

Can you paint over orange tiles?

If you first pre-paint the tiles with MissPompadour To Bond & Block, you can also easily paint over bright orange tiles, which were very popular in the 70s.

Which colours go well with orange tiles?

Orange tile paint combines particularly well with light beige tones and warm white. But green tones also go well.
