Can you paint tiles with yellow tile paint?

Painting tiles in shades of yellow is really easy if you keep a few things in mind: The tiles need to be completely clean. Any grease, dust and limescale residue must be carefully removed. The best way to do this is with the gentle but extremely effective cleaner MissPompadour To Clean.

Next, you may need to paint over the silicone joints, because paints can't adhere to silicone. That's what To Seal Silicone is for. Apply the liquid to the silicone joints with a thin brush.

So that the yellow tile paint adheres well to the smooth surface of your tiles, it's a good idea to apply a base coat of MissPompadour To Bond & Block first. This primer creates an even surface for your paint to grip. It also boosts the coverage of the yellow paint, especially if you want to paint over patterned tiles. Finally, paint with the tile paint in your chosen shade. Simply paint the grout lines too – it gives a calm finish.

The right paint for yellow tiles

At MissPompadour, you'll find a paint that's ideal for painting tiles. It's our Easy Eggshell! With this hard-wearing paint, which is emission-minimised according to VdL-RL 01 and comes in over 120 different shades, you get a gently satin-matt, elegant finish. This tile paint is also extremely easy to care for and doesn't mind being cleaned, even with cleaning products. Want to paint the floor tiles too? No problem! With MissPompadour stencils, you can create a gorgeous pattern on the floor. It's best to finish off the floor with To Seal. This extra protective layer makes the tile paint even more resistant to pressure, knocks and scratches.

Easy Eggshell! sticks to almost all tiles, but there are a few exceptions: waxed or otherwise impregnated tiles usually can't be painted, and neither can tiles with a lotus effect.

Bring sunshine into your home with yellow tile paint

A coat of paint in shades of yellow lets you make the sun rise in any room. Even if your bathroom has no window, you can use yellow paint to bring more light, brightness and good spirits into the space. Even in the shower, the tile paint proves its water resistance on wall tiles. Combined with To Seal, it copes brilliantly with running water, but standing water should be avoided. For this reason, you shouldn't paint floor tiles in the shower.

Yellow bathroom tiles for a good morning

First thing in the morning, when getting out of bed is often hard, a kick of light and freshness is especially welcome. How about designing your bathroom so that it brings a smile to your face as soon as you step in? With tile paint in shades of yellow, that can really happen. MissPompadour Yellow with Sun is just such a wake-up shade. Perhaps you could paint the floor in a white with a slight hint of yellow, such as White with Sun, and then use Yellow with Sun on the wall tiles. If you'd like to paint the ceiling to match, that's no problem – our Easy Eggshell! is also available in matching yellow wall paints.

Painting a kitchen splashback yellow

Yellow tile paint can make a wonderful difference in more than just the bathroom. Many colourful kitchens, and especially those with white or grey units, look great with a cheerful yellow paint such as Yellow with Lemon on the tiled splashback. In kitchens, careful pre-cleaning is especially important, because wherever people cook, a light film of grease vapour always settles. And paint can't stick to grease. So first, any grease on the tiles must be carefully removed with MissPompadour To Clean. Next, apply To Bond & Block. This prepares the surface perfectly for the paint. Especially on patterned splashbacks, a primer also boosts the coverage. The yellow tile paint comes next. Since a kitchen splashback is cleaned often and thoroughly, we recommend strengthening the paint with To Seal. This makes your tile paint finish even more hard-wearing.

It can also look really clever if the floor tiles match the paint on the wall tiles. However, as yellow floor tiles show dirt easily, we recommend creating a gorgeous pattern with MissPompadour stencils instead. If you've painted your splashback in Yellow with Saffron, for example, and your floor tiles in Brown with Dark Chocolate, you could use the leftover yellow paint to stencil a pattern onto the floor. Please note that both the splashback and the floor tiles should be finished with To Seal.
