Do you want to protect the environment and not simply dispose of old, perhaps inherited furniture, flea market finds or modern boredom-busters, but instead brighten them up with a fresh coat of paint? And red is your absolute favourite colour? Then take a look at the wide range of red colour shades at MissPomapdour and get to work! If you follow the tips and tricks below, nothing stands in the way of a great result.

Paint furniture in shades of red: These varnishes are suitable

Depending on where your furniture will be placed in the future and how it will be used, you should first decide on the paint quality. At MissPompadour, you will find red varnishes in different variants that are suitable for pieces of furniture that are subject to different levels of stress.

Eggshell varnish: ideal varnish for heavily used surfaces

Our Eggshell Varnish variant is a real all-rounder. It gives you a silky matt, extremely easy-care surface that can easily withstand pressure, impact and scratches. This varnish is also weatherproof, making it suitable for garden furniture and all outdoor furniture. Perhaps you paint your garden shed in a Nordic colour shade like Red with Sweden? Eggshell Varnish is perfect for finishing table tops, chairs, benches and kitchen furniture.

This environmentally friendly varnish variant is available in more than 90 different colour shades in our Just paint collection, including interesting red tones from very light red to wine red to rich dark red. The colour shades of these paint colours are also available as red wall paints. You can also find the matching non-woven wallpaper for each colour shade at MissPompadour.

Matt varnish: matt varnish for the vintage look

Another paint variant is MissPompadour Matt Varnish. With this varnish, you can achieve a powdery, velvety surface that looks very sophisticated. This matt varnish is also well suited to vintage-look paintwork. The rich Red with Raspberry, for example, is perfect for a 50s-style ambience. Matt Varnish is also available in over 90 colours from the Just paint collection, which are also available as wall paints. For example, you have the option of painting your metal radiators in a completely matt finish in the colour of the wall behind them. This furniture paint is suitable for interior painting.

Chalk paint: paint furniture red

MissPompadour also offers 2 chalk varnishes in red colour shades. The soft shades from the CosyColours chalk paints collection are truly not signal colours, but shades of red that spread comfort. The friendly Autumn Red with its warm brown tones and the dark, rosé-coloured Poudre Red are particularly suitable for casting your furniture in a new, warm light. With the VOC-free chalk varnishes, which are harmless to health, you can achieve slightly rustic-looking, matt surfaces. These colours are particularly suitable for an authentic vintage look or the classic country house style.

Apply red furniture paint correctly

If you want to paint furniture red with furniture paint, always clean it thoroughly first. All dust and dirt must be removed. Use our mild but very effective MissPompadour To Cleaner. Sand off any residue from old waxes.

Further processing depends on the material you want to paint. The easiest way is to apply your furniture paint to undamaged old paint. You can simply paint over it. However, if the varnish flakes off, you will have to sand it down. Carefully remove any dust after sanding.

If you are painting raw, highly absorbent or bleeding wood, as well as wood with noticeable stains (e.g. pine wood), we recommend our primer. MissPompadour To Bond & Block closes the wood pores and creates an even surface on your furniture. We also recommend using a primer if you want to finish a very smooth surface with furniture paint. If the surface for your furniture paint is made of metal, plastic or glass, you should apply a coat of To Bond & Block. The primer will give your furniture paint a secure hold on the smooth surfaces. If your piece of furniture is rusty, sand off the rust first and apply a rust protection primer.

Once the primer has dried, apply a coat of red furniture paint. You should apply at least 2 coats of the furniture paint to your furniture. Red tones generally do not have the same opacity as other colour shades. It may therefore be necessary to apply another coat of colour. In general, strong colour shades in particular only develop their final radiance when the second or third coat of paint is applied.

If you would like to stabilise your surfaces, add a final layer of MissPompadour To Seal. Chalk varnishes can also be finished with MissPompadour To Wax-Polish. With the colourless wax, the matt finish of the chalk is retained as far as possible. Use our coloured waxes to set accents.

Appetising: red furniture paint in the kitchen

A furniture colour in a soft red tone such as Red with Coral can have a great effect, especially in the kitchen. Combine red tones with grey colours from light to anthracite or a fresh white. With our low-pollutant varnishes, you can also paint in rooms where food is handled without worrying. However, especially in the kitchen, don't forget to remove grease from all surfaces before painting with primer or varnish and to seal the finish.

Red as a colour highlight in industrial chic

Industrial style interiors are often somewhat colourless. Grey and beige colours usually predominate here. An accent with red furniture can do no harm. The red furniture colour is allowed to develop some luminosity here. Perhaps paint an old metal locker with Red with Chilli. In any case, red furniture paint brings vibrancy to your ambience. Make sure that the red colour reappears elsewhere in the room. You could decorate the inside of a display cabinet with red furniture paint. Or place wallpaper on a piece of wall in which the red colour nuances of the varnish appear.

Colourful mix of Dopamine Decor: design your living room with red furniture paint

If you have opted for a Dopamine-style interior, don't shy away from bold colours such as Red with Cherry. You can also combine your red furniture colour with various other shades of red or orange and pink. Any amount of bold colour can be combined with red furniture paint. Everything can be colourful, but the overall impression should still be harmonious. The main thing is that the amount of different colours used puts you in a good mood.

Order furniture paint in red from MissPompadour

With a selection of reds ranging from soft shades such as Red with Flamingo to dark Red with Merlot, it's best to order the MissPompadour colour cards. The MissPompadour colour cards are the size of a postcard and can be removed individually. The CosyColours chalk paints colour card contains hand-painted samples so that you can also feel the feel of the chalk.

If you then order your varnish, why not add everything you need as tools for painting, such as brushes for finer work, a paint roller for rolling larger areas and a paint tray, to your shopping basket. This will save you additional shipping costs.

Frequently asked questions & answers about red furniture paint

  • How well does red furniture lacquer cover?
Red colour shades generally do not cover as well as other colours. It is better to calculate with one or two additional coats. By using a primer, however, you increase the opacity enormously.
  • Is red furniture lacquer susceptible to dirt?
    No more than other colours.
  • How do I combine the furniture colour red?
That depends on the shade of red. In principle, many shades of grey harmonise with red. But shades of green also usually go well. A strong blue can also complement red well. Brownish reds go well with natural tones. As there is a wide range of colours to choose from, let our friendly and competent customer service team help you. They are available almost around the clock by WhatsApp, phone and email.
