Red tiles: a trend with many faces

At first, red tends to make you think of rather intense colours, and you may worry that such a shade will look too loud in your rooms. Luckily, there are lots of different shades of red, from delicate and soft to intense and bold, so everyone can find the right one for their taste. Bring this invigorating colour into your bathroom, for example, for a refreshing start to the day!

Painting tiles with red tile paint: can it really be done?

Painting tiles is easy if you keep a few things in mind. It's really important to clean the tiles thoroughly before you start. The perfect product for the job is the gentle but highly effective MissPompadour To Clean. It reliably removes grease, dust, limescale residue and other dirt.

Next, apply a primer to the silicone joints in your bathroom, because no paint will stick to silicone. Use To Seal Silicone for this.

For the smooth surface of tiles, we recommend our primer To Bond & Block. This primer helps your red tile paint to adhere well. It also helps to create an even base. Then apply the red tile paint with a roller in 2 coats.

If you'd like to paint floor tiles, finish off with a topcoat to stabilise the paint. MissPompadour To Seal lets you protect red tiles against knocks, pressure and scratches.

The paint for painting red tiles

At MissPompadour, you'll find a paint that's wonderfully suited to painting tiles. Easy Eggshell! is splash-proof, though you should avoid standing water. That makes it suitable for wall tiles in every room, including the bathroom. Just don't use it on floor tiles in the shower. It's hard-wearing and scratch-resistant and can be cleaned with cleaning products without any problem.

There are only a few tiles that this tile paint won't stick to. Waxed or otherwise impregnated tiles usually can't be painted, and neither can tiles with a lotus effect. So make sure your tiles aren't one of the exceptions before you order paints.

Red tile paint: an eye-catcher in many rooms

Red paint suits many rooms. With beautiful shades of red, you can give wall tiles or floor tiles in the bathroom, kitchen or utility room a fresh look and completely change the feel of your space. Red tile paint also combines beautifully with other shades. Red and grey, for example, make a great pairing. Contrasts with other colours let you create interesting patterns with MissPompadour stencils. Shades of red can often create a fantastic effect.

Red tile paint as a wake-up call in the bathroom

Red paint can transform a bathroom and give the room a whole new flair. It all depends on the shade of red you choose. The fresh MissPompadour Red with Coral, for example, brings life to your bathroom walls without being too in-your-face. A warm berry shade like Red with Raspberry on the walls can also turn your bathroom into a little spa retreat. And red tiles in the rich Red with Sweden can look wonderful on your bathroom floor. Perhaps you'd like to stencil them in combination with a light shade of red. The contrast of red tiles with white ceramics looks fresh and cheerful.

And it's not just the bathroom: you can work with reds in the loo, too. Since you don't spend long in a toilet room, you can happily go for stronger colours here. Maybe you'll paint the whole room in a shade of red like Red with Merlot. To go with our Easy Eggshell!, MissPompadour also has red wall paints, so you can paint the ceiling in the same shade, too.

A splashback in red tile paint as a colour accent in the kitchen

Red tiles can look great in the cooking area, too. A splashback in the tile paint shade Red with Cherry, for example, can look really zingy in a white kitchen, as well as a grey one. If you love a vintage look, you might paint your kitchen in a shade like Red with Flamingo. Here, the addition of beige pigments creates a warm, soft touch that's reminiscent of days gone by.

Remember that cooking always produces greasy vapours in the room, so you need to clean the tiles especially well before you paint them red. It's also a good idea to give the tiles extra protection after painting with a coat of To Seal.

Red tiles in the utility room and hallway

Why neglect your utility room and settle for boring white or grey tiles? In a pleasant atmosphere, even the sometimes dull household chores are instantly more fun! Here, too, red tile paint can bring warmth and light into the room. Why not combine a grey shade with the lively Red with Chili and stencil a pattern onto the tiled floor?

Floor tiles aren't just found in the bathroom, but often in the hallway and entrance area, too. Here as well, you can create your very own style with shades of red.

Shades of grey to anthracite go particularly well with the red tile colour. But shades of green also go well. They are the complementary colour to red.

Are red tiles susceptible to dirt?

Whether the tile colour red is susceptible to staining depends on the shade of red. It is advisable to apply patterns to the floor using stencils. This is because patterned floors are less susceptible to dirt.

How does red tile paint work?

Red tones usually look fresh and lively. However, their respective effect always depends on the composition of their pigments. A dark, rich Red with Merlot, for example, has an elegant effect, while the light, friendly Red with Flamingo is cheerful and lively.

Is red tile paint modern?

Whether you feel at home with red shades on your bathroom or kitchen tiles is more a question of your own personal colour sense than of fashion. Either way, red in interior design is right on trend: Red with Raspberry has already been MissPompadour's Colour of the Year.

Does red varnish go well with light-coloured tiles?

Shades of red can be combined well with light colours. A friendly white, but also a soft pink make a harmonious addition. Shades of grey and beige also complement red perfectly.

Which furniture goes well with red tiles?
