When painting, it’s often essential to draw straight lines. Place the stirring stick against the surface and simply paint along its straight edge. It doesn’t matter if paint gets on the stick. For example, if you want to maintain even spacing when stencilling, mark a line on your stir stick to help you.

Want to remove your masking tape even though the paint is already quite dry? Place a stirring stick against the edge of the tape and run a craft knife along it. This reliably prevents you from tearing off any paint as well as the tape.

How about keeping a used stirring stick after painting? Make a note of the colour shade and the piece of furniture or room where it was used on the stick. Over time, this will build up into a collection of colours you’ve used, which you can refer to at any time. By the way, if you want to set your brush down briefly whilst painting, simply rest it, bristles down, on your wooden stirrer. This keeps the paint off the surface you’re working on.
