CosyColours Metallic Paint Gold: Varnish for a shiny appearance
A beautiful golden metallic varnish was still missing from the CosyColours collection. Voilà, here it is and it will immediately make the hearts of all DIY fans beat faster!
Barrel painting is an ancient craft in which antique furniture or wooden sculptures are decorated with gold paint. The shabby chic trend has brought this technique back into fashion today. Ornaments on furniture or picture frames are "set" in colour, i.e. set off or gilded. Barrel painting is a profession in its own right and the colouring of furniture is actually a complicated process. With CosyColours gold paint, however, you can easily create this effect yourself.
The quick-drying, low-odour, acrylic-based metallic varnish makes it easy to gild wood, metal, plastic and even plaster and cement. It is also possible to paint an entire workpiece in gold colour. This means you can also make modern pieces of furniture an eye-catcher with effect paint in gold. CosyColours Metallic Paint can be used both indoors and outdoors. The metallic effect is at its best when the surface is uniformly coloured and has a good grip. We therefore recommend applying it on top of a primer or an existing coat of paint. How about first painting an old wrought-iron gate with a colour of your choice and then decorating it with some gold effect paint?
Quickly & easily create the perfect antique look with gold paint
As always when designing with colour, the work begins with a thorough cleaning of the surfaces to be painted. There must be no dust, dirt, wax or rust on the surface. Use the mild but extremely effective MissPompadour To Cleaner to prepare for painting. Undamaged old paint can simply be painted over with the Metallic Paint. However, if the varnish is peeling or the furniture has been treated with wax, you will need to sand it.
You should prime raw or bleeding wood before painting. MissPompadour To Bond & Block is suitable for this. If you want to apply the gold paint to plastic, stone or cement, we also recommend priming with To Bond & Block. It ensures that your gold paint adheres securely and mattes the surface. Any rust must be removed from metal, especially iron, and a metal primer must then be applied before applying To Bond & Block.
Now you can apply the effect paint. It must be stirred particularly well at the beginning so that the pigments are evenly distributed. Use either a brush or Roller to apply the varnish. Paint the varnish on very thinly, layer by layer, to achieve the best effect. You should apply at least 2 coats. Allow the gold varnish to dry for at least 7 hours after the first coat, then apply the second coat. If the painted surfaces will later be subjected to a lot of wear and tear, you can also stabilise them with MissPompadour To Seal.
| Metallic Paint Gold: | This metallic varnish adds that certain something to your favourite pieces. With the robust, warm and shimmering metallic varnish, you can create accents and even "gild" entire pieces of furniture. It is hard-wearing and washable, even on smooth surfaces. No harmful, volatile substances are emitted during drying. The effect varnish has a high UV light resistance and adds lustre to your DIY project. Preparation and application: Stir the paint well and apply at temperatures from 5 °C. The surface must be free of dust and grease. Pre-coat extremely absorbent or very smooth surfaces and raw wood with MissPompadour To Bond & Block. Use the fine MissPompadour brush or a varnish roller. Coverage: Approx. 10-12 m²/l with 1 coat, approx. 4 m²/can. The actual consumption depends on the number of coats and the condition of the substrate. Drying time: Dust-dry after approx. 1 hour, recoatable after approx. 7 hours. Loadable after approx. 3 days. Shelf life: At least 24 months in unopened packaging when stored in a cool and frost-free place. |

What is effect varnish?
Effect paints are all varnishes whose appearance depends on the viewing angle. Metallic paint is also an effect paint, as the colour looks different depending on how the light falls on it. However, there are also effect paints that simulate a certain surface structure, such as opalescent gloss or surfaces with a hammered look.
How do I use effect varnish?
Effect paint must always be stirred particularly carefully so that the pigments are evenly distributed. Then pour some of the metallic varnish into a paint tray. We recommend that you always apply 2 coats, even if the gold paint covers the first time. This will make your colour layer thicker and more stable. It is important that the colour is allowed to dry for at least 7 hours between coats.
If you want to finish a piece of furniture in a shabby chic style after painting it with chalk varnish, wait until it has dried after the last coat. Then you can apply the gold varnish to edges and protrusions to achieve an authentic vintage look
What tools do I need to apply the varnish?
Of course, you need the right tools for a good work result. That's why we've put together a range of high-quality tools for you. From masking tape with natural rubber to our environmentally friendly paint trays without any plastic, to the varnish roller and our LittlePomp brushn - you'll find everything you need for easy implementation of your painting projects. :)
